PAD is a common complication of diabetes, secondary to poor blood glucose control and adverse arterial risk factors – high cholesterol, raised blood pressure and smoking.
Both large and small vessels can be affected;
- Microvascular (small blood vessel disease)
- Macrovascular (large blood vessel disease)
